Hello, and thanks for taking the time to read about me!
I’ve been a therapist for over 20 years now, and am a Clinical member of the Australian Association of Family Therapy, an Accredited Practitioner with the EMDR Association of Australia, and an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. I work with adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families.
What’s my approach to counselling and therapy? Well, I sometimes joke that I have a different approach with every client who walks in the door!
That’s actually not too far off the truth. Over the years I have come to appreciate that all of us have common experiences. We all at some point, get down, sad, anxious, or experience some really painful things that often come back to haunt us years later. However, while we all have common experiences, we will go through them as individuals. Our personal history, personality and interpretation of events, all make us unique.
What I do as the therapist is to remember this: that when you walk through my office door, I will treat you as you. As someone who is unlike any other, and therefore expects a unique approach.
I have had both experience and training in family therapy, and appreciate that no person in the family lives in isolation – that each member has something to contribute to the family’s healing.
Families can be our biggest source of pain and comfort – often at the same time – and sometimes we need a guide to make sense of these experiences. To do so, I usually work with a combination of sessions with the parents or caregivers, sessions with any young people, and of course, the whole family.
I am an AASW-listed supervisor and have supervised practitioners for many years from both government and non-government organisations, particularly in the areas of family work, trauma, and child and adolescent mental health (the area of my PhD). I have also guided social workers in gaining their AMHSW status.
